Peoples Telecommunication & Information Services Ltd. (PeoplesTel) is the successor company of Bangladesh Rural Telecom Authority (BRTA) Pvt Ltd. BRTA started its operation in 1989 with the responsibility to provide digital communication in 203 rural Thanas (smallest administrative area of Bangladesh) throughout North, North-East and North-West region of the country with the agreement with Bangladesh Government, Represented by Bangladesh Telegraph & Telephone Board (BTTB), the Government owned telephone company. Later this agreement was revised in 1993 and BRTA was given the responsibility for 199 Thanas. BRTA is the first private PSTN operator in Bangladesh. In fact it has paved the way for telecom privatisation in Bangladesh.

Thursday, 12th June 2008 Earlier our call rate to mobile had peak and off-peak hours. Now all our rates are one low flat-rate. Calls to any mobile is Tk.0.89 per minute. We have also introduced a "Customer Referral Program". For every 10 customers that is referred to PeoplesTel, that customer is entitled for one month free unlimited Internet access (unlimited time and data, valued at Tk. 700). Please advise your friends and colleagues to mention your phone number when activating new connections. |

Thursday, 12th June 2008 PeoplesTel has launched unlimited Internet package for Tk. 700/month. This is available 24 hours and includes unlimited data. No data capping applies after certain amount of download. This is available for both wired and wireless customers. Wired customers can access Internet via dial-up and wireless customers require a data enabled handset to access the Internet. Please contact your nearest PeoplesTel dealer for activation. |

Tuesday, 1st April 2008 We are delighted to inform our existing customers that we have revised our call rates. Calls to any non-mobile phones will be billed only at our off-peak rates, thus introducing a flat rate. Pulse rates to a number of destinations have been reduced. Calls to mobile phones have now peak hour and off-peak hour rates; eliminating business hour rates. Our off-peak hour rate remains at our low Tk.0.90 per minute and peak hour rates have been reduced to Tk.1.10 per minute from Tk.1.25 per minute. Off-peak hour duration has also been increased to 12 hours (8:00pm to 7:59am) from 9 hours. For details please check the nationwide call rates page. |

Monday, 17th March 2008 Today PeoplesTel obtained the licence from BTRC to operate in Dhaka. Customers from Dhaka City, Tongi, Savar, Narayanganj and Gazipur district can now join rest of Bangladesh in a reliable, widespread, convenient and cost-effective telephone and data service network. |
