The Company (GCM) under its former name, Asia Energy PLC, was incorporated in England and Wales as a public limited company on 26 September 2003. Asia Energy PLC was admitted to the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange on 19 April 2004. Through seed capital raising and the subsequent placement of shares, some £14 million was raised.

In November 2005, following submission to the Government of Bangladesh of the Phulbari Coal Project’s Feasibility Study and Scheme of Development, the Company placed an additional 6,740,000 shares and raised a further US$ 52 million.

Iwatsu: Iwatsu Electric was founded in 1938 as a manufacturer of communication systems. From 1947, they started to manufacture telephones and other telecommunications equipment, contributing to the expansion of communication networks in Japan. Iwatsu pioneered the development and marketing of electronic key telephone systems in Japan. Iwatsu pioneered other fields such as oscilloscopes and other electronic testing and measuring instruments.

In 1961, they started full-scale manufacturing of electronic plate makers for use in the printing industry. They were also engaged in the development and marketing of various computer peripherals and terminals.

Hayestech: Based in Melbourne, Hayestech Australia Pty. Ltd. is a technology company dealing in Hi-tech telecommunication equipment, software development, design of new Hi-technology products, real estate development, agro based commodities and human resources development.

In software development they have a number of partners in Bangladesh and other European and American companies. They are specialised in database management for corporate companies, customising various softwares (depending on the clients need), data entry, developing marketing and health/medical software.
